In 2010, close friends, a Frenchman and an Argentine planted their first Black Winter Truffle (Perigord Truffle - Tuber Melanosporum) inoculated Ilex and Rober Oak trees at an estancia near Chillar, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. This marked the start of the first truffle plantation in Argentina - Trufas La Esperanza.
Together they saw an opportunity to provide international and domestic markets with the highest quality truffles, during the dormant European harvesting months (June - August).
Rigorous soil tests concluded that the estancia along with a combination of climate conditions and irrigation was ideal for cultivating truffles which would rival those harvested in Europe. Six years on, the combined 3 plantations aggregate 37 acres of woodland with the aim to increase to 250 acres.
This year 24 kg’s of premium Black Winter Truffles have been harvested. Sparking interest not only within the Argentine market, but also in Europe and the US.
We look forward to providing the first and best Black Winter Truffles from Argentina.
